Jesus, Fill This Room
Like so many others across America and around the world, my heart is heavy over the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk. He was young, a husband, a father to two small children, a leader whose voice younger generations could look up to, and most importantly—an outspoken follower of Christ.
Why is it that so many of us who never personally knew him feel such deep sorrow over his death? I believe part of it is because of the public nature of what happened. We were never meant to witness such horrid things unfold on social media. But I also believe it’s because we saw him as innocent. His mission was not to tear people down but to engage them in conversation—listening to their thoughts while sharing his own. He was bold, but he was also approachable.
And something about this tragedy has stirred hearts across our nation.
As I scrolled through TikTok yesterday, I was amazed by the number of videos of people saying they went to church for the first time, or the first time in years. Others shared that they had gotten their very first Bible or that they wanted to learn how to pray. I believe this stirring is revival. And I believe Charlie is rejoicing in heaven as he sees so many people turning to Christ because of his sacrifice.
On Sunday morning, my husband compared Charlie to Stephen in the book of Acts—a leader in the early church who was martyred for his faith. Stephen’s death caused a great shaking, and I can’t help but hope that churches across the country echoed the same encouragement this week: to stand boldly and proclaim, “Jesus is Lord.”
As a wife and mother, my heart especially breaks for Erika Kirk. I wept as I listened to her speak to the world. How do you live without your best friend? What do you tell a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old when they ask where Daddy is? And yet, in the midst of her unimaginable pain, she showed a strength and resolve that could only come from Jesus.
She said many quotable things that day, but the very first words from her lips are what struck me most: “Jesus, fill this room.”
That is the cry of a woman who knows her strength doesn’t come from herself, but from the presence of the Lord.
And now, I find myself whispering the same words over my own life.
“Jesus, fill this room.”
Because I don’t want to do anything on my own—not be a wife, not be a mom, not walk in my calling apart from Him. If I am going to be the woman God created me to be, I need His presence in every area of my life.
And so do you.
Whether you’re navigating grief, motherhood, marriage, or the daily challenges of life, let this be our prayer each and every day:
“Jesus, fill this room.”
Because His presence changes everything.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Psalm 34:18 (NLT)
May we cling to this truth in days of sorrow and in days of joy—He is near, He is faithful, and He will fill every room where He is invited.
